Details view in Windows Explorer lets user see the size of files, but this does not work when it comes to folders. Though displaying folders’ size would be very convenient as it gives user a quick overview of how much space each folder occupies on his hard drive. Today there are a lot of utilities that needs installation to enable this feature. However I’m going to show you the easiest way with no any additional software involved. Just follow below steps:
1. First you need to download this file: DirSize.zip 2. When downloaded, extract the dirsize.dll file from the archive and copy to the following location C:\WINDOWS\system32 . 3. Go to Start-->Run, type: regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dirsize.dll ……and press Enter. On successful installation you should get a message: “DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dirsize.dll succeeded". Press OK. 4. Now open your Windows Explorer and go to any drive or folder that contains other folders. Switch to Details View. Right click on the top panel where fields like “Name”, “Size”, “Type” and “Date Modified” are displayed. In popped up list you’ll see the Folder Size. Tick it and you’ll get additional column in your Windows Explorer showing the size of folders.
